There are three common colors for gold, depending on which metals it is alloyed with. White gold is pure gold alloyed with palladium. Rose gold is created by adding extra copper to the alloy, while the most common color, yellow gold, is made with a smaller amount of copper.
The amount of gold in the allow is designated by the karat system where 24k gold is pure gold. However, pure gold is too soft for rings and would easily deform so jewelers prefer to use 18k gold (75% pure) for rings and most fine gold jewelry.
